Today

It snowed, today. I thought of Kanno Sugako [管野 須賀子] (1881–1911), Japanese anarcho-feminist as, condemned to death and eventually executed in the gallows, she gently wrote in prison:

''Snow. Full of memories. As I stare out the iron window and observe the gently swirling snow, memories of many years float past my eyes, the many times that I looked up at the same sky with all sorts of thoughts and feelings. A combination of happiness and sorrow quietly presses against my chest. I long for those days, but I realize that all things are ephemeral.

I don’t know what will happen to me tomorrow. Yet now I do not have time to enjoy reminiscing about the past. Oh, yes, I have the time, but my time is too precious. I must use the time to read, to write.''
